Marlins Acquire Jacob Stallings From Pirates

The Miami Marlins are acquiring catcher Jacob Stallings from the Pittsburgh Pirates. In return, the Pirates are receiving pitchers Zach Thompson, Kyle Nicolas, and Connor Scott.

Stallings, 31, is coming off of a fantastic season in which he won the Gold Glove Award and the Fielding Bible Award. However, offensively, things will need to improve.

Stallings hit only eight home runs last year with a .276 AVG and 56 RBI’s in 112 games. Over the past three seasons, Stallings has posted a .251/.331/.374 batting line with 17 home runs, 32 doubles and a triple in 780 plate appearances.

Stallings knows how to handle a pitching staff and call games very effectively, and will stabilize the position for years to come – he can’t become a free agent until 2025.

Oh yeah, Stallings had 21 defensive runs saved last season!
