Fedde Dominates with 10 K’s, Marlins Fall Short of Nationals 5-1

The Miami Marlins returned to LoanDepot Park on Tuesday night to face the Washington Nationals after a hard-fought three-game road trip in Cincinnati. Unfortunately for the Fish, the Reds came up with timely hitting and pitching down the stretch resulting in three straight wins against Miami.

Recap

Looking for a bounce-back start to the next series, the Marlins called upon Jesus Luzardo for the first of three games against the Washington Nationals. The Nationals countered with 28-year-old Erick Fedde on the bump. Fedde had the Marlins’ number as he struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings. Luzardo struggled on the mound once again, allowing five runs on ten hits over 4.2 innings.

The Nationals launched two long balls in Tuesday night’s matinee. The first one was hit by Catcher Tres Barrea and the second was from First Baseman Ryan Zimmerman. This loss for the Marlins extends their losing streak to a season-high eight on the season. The Nationals advance to a record of 54-70, while the Marlins fall to a tally of 51-75.

The Marlins made a significant move, calling up their No. 2 prospect Edward Cabrera (0-0. 0.00 ERA) for his Major League Debut. Cabrera has made his way quickly through the Marlins minor league system. He started in Single-A at the beginning of the 2021 season. Cabrera will face fellow rookie, Nationals RHP Josiah Gray (0-1, 3.90 ERA), on Wednesday night.
