Miami Dolphins LB Sam Eguavoen had 11 tackles, four sacks, and one safety in Saturday night’s preseason game against Atlanta. That’s impressive, right? So, who is Sam Eguavoen?
Sam Eguavoen
Eguavoen, 28, played college football at Texas Tech. He then went undrafted in 2015. After going undrafted, Eguavoen spent three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (2016-18). After his tenure in Canada, Eguavoen signed with the Dolphins on Jan. 7 of 2019.
In two seasons with Miami, he’s played in all 32 games with seven starts and tallied 45 tackles (24 solo), 3.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery. Eguavoen also had six special teams stops.
Saturday’s Game Against Atlanta
Eguavoen became the first NFL player since 2017 to sack the quarterback four times in a preseason game.
“Last time I had four sacks?,” pondered Eguavoen. “My dream last night.”
Eguavoen’s Future in Miami
Despite Eguavoen’s terrific performance on Saturday night, he will likely continue to get little playing time, unless an injury occurs. Right now, Eguavoen is behind Benardrick McKinney and Elandon Roberts in the depth chart.
