Jibri Blount Signs With the Miami Dolphins

On Thursday afternoon, the Miami Dolphins signed TE Jibri Blount.

Jibri Blount, 24, is the son of former Steelers HOF cornerback Mel Blount. Also, Jibri is a former basketball player for North Carolina Central and the Cleveland State Vikings.

But now, Jibri will be making the switch to Tight End at 6’7″, 230 pounds.

Miami now has seven tight ends on their roster. In addition to the signing of Blount, the Dolphins have the established trio of Mike Gesicki, Durham Smythe and Adam Shaheen at the position plus the depth of practice squad player Chris Myarick. Also, the Dolphins have Cethan Carter who was added in free agency, and then Hunter Long who was selected in the 3rd-round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Basketball Career

In his senior year at North Carolina Central, Blount averaged 19.2 points per game, 9.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.

Blount’s Family

Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Blount is the father of Jibri Blount. Mel played 200 career games for the Pittsburgh Steelers and finished his career with 57 interceptions.

In addition to his dad, Jibri also has two brothers who play football. Akil, the oldest brother, got a chance with the Dolphins as a free agent after playing linebacker at Florida A&M. And the youngest brother, Khalid, plays on the North Carolina Central football team.
