The Miami Marlins had a walk-off win against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. Catcher Jorge Alfaro got the job done, hitting the game-winning double in the 10th inning.
Jarlin Garcia Faces Former Team
Jarlin Garcia, 28-years-old, signed as a free agent with the Miami Marlins in 2010. He later made his debut with the team in 2017, spending time within the organization until 2020.
On Saturday night, Garcia played in loanDepot park for the first time in a road uniform. And to say the least, things didn’t go well. Garcia struck out Brian Anderson to start the 10th inning, but then walked Jazz Chisholm. Next, Garcia got Chad Wallach to fly out to right, but that’s when Jorge Alfaro would come to the plate with two outs and two runners on (Adam Duvall was on base because of the new extra inning rule). Alfaro would then hit a walk-off double to left field, propelling the Marlins back to the .500 mark (7-7). Alfaro finished the game 2-for-6 with three RBI’s, notching his first extra-base hit of the season.
Corey Dickerson Has Four Hit Game
Miami Marlins leadoff hitter Corey Dickerson went 4-for-6 on Saturday night. Dickerson, 31-years-old, had four singles and scored a run in the walk-off win.
Starting Pitching
Giants starter Aaron Sanchez gave up one run, five hits, and three walks in 4 2/3 innings.
Meanwhile, Sandy Alcantara pitched well, despite giving up four runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
“Sandy was a little bit of a mystery because he was cruising all day and getting ahead,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “His pitch count was in a good spot.”
Other Notes
- The Marlins have won six out of their last seven games.
- Catcher Buster Posey exited Saturday’s game in the bottom of the seventh inning after running the bases following a hit by pitch from Sandy Alcantara. Posey has reached base safely in five of his last six games.
