On Monday afternoon, the Miami Marlins traded Jordan Yamamoto to the New York Mets in exchange for minor league infielder Federico Polanco.
Federico Polanco
After spending two years with the Mets, Federico Polanco will now head to Miami. Polanco, who is 19-years-old, is a utility infielder born in the Dominican Republic. Through 120 career minor league games, Polanco has hit zero home runs, but you got to expect some improved bat power since the last time he played in a minor league game (2019). Polanco posted a .299/.383/.418 split in 231 plate appearances with the Mets’ Dominican Summer League affiliate in 2019.
“I feel super good. Im going to do my best as I always have, but now in Miami” said new Marlin Federico Polanco.
Jordan Yamamoto
Jordan Yamamoto, the native Hawaiian, now heads to New York to increase the Mets’ pitching depth. The 24 year-old, joined the Marlins as one of four players acquired in the large Christian Yelich trade. Yamamoto who showed much promise early on, posted a 18.26 ERA over four outings in 2020 (23 earned runs on 27 hits).
Trade Impact on the Mets– Most likely, Yamamoto won’t factor into the Mets initial starting rotation. But, he can serve as optional depth. As a result of this trade, the Mets DFA’d infielder Robel Garcia.
Trade Impact on the Marlins– The Marlins, who signed RHP Anthony Bass, DFA’d Yamamoto on January 28th to clear up some room. But the Marlins luckily got someone in return, a young prospect in Federico Polanco.
