The Florida State Seminoles received a much-needed acquisition through the transfer portal on Friday after Cam’Ron Fletcher announced his move to Tallahassee. Fletcher, who played at Kentucky his freshman year, received minimal playing time under famous head coach John Calipari. The former Wildcats small forward participated in only nine games in 2020, averaging somewhat disappointing stats with the blue blood program. This low combination of both playing time and production prompted Fletcher to leave Kentucky in the hope to pursue a better fit program for himself.
Although a variety of destinations appeared on his radar, Fletcher ultimately decided to take his talents to FSU. His decision sparked a great amount of hope around the program, as the ‘Noles have now garnered a very versatile player. More importantly, the 6’7″, 215 pound forward will serve as the all-important replacement for NBA Draft entrant Raiquan Gray.

When asked about joining FSU, Fletcher showed much excitement. As he stated, “I’m excited to play with a group of guys and to be part of a brotherhood. I’m really looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new teammates. It’s important to me to get to know them as people, so I can learn about them as players. I feel like I can thrive in Florida State’s system. I’m looking forward to working hard and achieving big things on the court.”
Leonard Hamilton’s Reaction to Fletcher Joining FSU
Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton did not shy away from the excitement either. When asked about the decision, Hamilton stated, “We are excited and looking forward to welcoming Cam into our basketball family. After visiting Cam and his family, I feel very confident that as he immerses himself into our culture here at Florida State, he will have the opportunity to excel and reach his full potential.”

As stated earlier, Cam’Ron Fletcher should fill in what once was a gaping hole for the ‘Noles. While he may have only played nine games in 2020, the former top 50 college basketball prospect has already shown great spurts of potential.
