Orlando Magic Free Agency Recap

The Orlando Magic made five signings on the second day of NBA free agency on Wednesday. Orlando has filled 14 of its 15 roster spots less than 24 hours after the signing period began.

Returning to Orlando

Jamal Cain: 1 year, $2.58 million

The Magic exercised their team option on Jamal Cain, a breakout star for them during the 2025-26 season. After starting as a two-way player with the Osceola Magic, Cain earned his first full NBA contract midway through the season.

Cain played in 40 regular season games with Orlando and contributed in all seven games in the first round against the Detroit Pistons. Following the Franz Wagner injury, he started the final three games of the series for Orlando.

His role will remain the same heading into next season, providing the Magic with good forward depth off the bench, where he shot 49% from the field and 38% from three.

Jevon Carter: 1 year, $3.5 million

Orlando also retained a midseason addition from last season, bringing back veteran guard Jevon Carter. Carter, who was signed after the Magic traded away Tyus Jones at the deadline, brought his leadership and defense to a competing team.

In 30 games in Orlando, Carter averaged 6.7 PPG, 1.7 RPG and 1.6 APG. His veteran leadership will return for an Orlando team looking to compete in a loaded Eastern Conference.

Jonathan Isaac: 1 year

After being waived on Saturday, Orlando is bringing back Jonathan Isaac on a one-year deal to stay with the team that drafted him. The former Florida State Seminole will remain with the Magic for his 10th season in the NBA.

Last season, Isaac averaged career-lows in minutes played, points, and rebounds, continuing a downward trend from his injury in the 2020 NBA Bubble. Isaac will serve as a depth forward for Orlando alongside second-year forward Noah Penda in 2027.

Colin Castleton: Two-way contract

The former Florida Gator Colin Castleton will return under his second two-way contract with the Magic. Castleton only appeared in four games with the Magic in 2026, mainly spending his time with the Osceola Magic.

Free agent additions

Nikola Vučević: 1 year, $3.9 million

The headlining signing for the Magic came with the signing of two-time All-Star Nikola Vučević. Vučević, Orlando’s all-time leader in field goals made, returns to the City Beautiful after being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2021 for current Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. and the pick that became Franz Wagner.

Vučević played for both the Bulls and the Boston Celtics last season, averaging 15.1 PPG and 8.4 RPG. The veteran center will look to provide spacing and scoring off of Orlando’s bench in 2027.

Izaiyah Nelson: Two-way contract

Former USF Bulls forward Izaiyah Nelson, who was drafted No. 51 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft,  signed a two-way contract with the Magic. Nelson, the reigning American Conference Player of the Year, will provide his energy and effort to both the Osceola and Orlando squads next season.

Free agent departure

Moritz Wagner: 2 years, $19 million to Brooklyn

With the signing of Vučević, the Magic decided to let Moritz Wagner leave after spending six years in Orlando. A late-season addition after the departure of Vučević, Wagner was a constant on the Magic’s bench unit once he arrived.

Wagner struggled in 2026, posting the worst marks in his Orlando tenure. The Nets gave him a fully-guaranteed contract worth $19 million, hoping he can return to form and provide veteran leadership for a young Brooklyn team.
