The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired Josh Grizzard as their new offensive coordinator, replacing Liam Coen, who left the Bucs to take the head coaching job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Grizzard is the fourth offensive coordinator in as many seasons for the Bucs. Grizzard was the Buccaneers’ passing coordinator this past season and was responsible for the Bucs’ third-down defense. The Buccaneers finished first in the league this past season in third-down conversions (51.1 percent).
Todd Bowles speaks highly of Josh Grizzard: “Josh is bright and innovative and was instrumental in our game-planning and play design over the last year. After interviewing several outstanding candidates throughout this process, it ultimately became clear that our best option was here in our building.”
“We had a lot of success offensively last season, and during our conversations he provided some great ideas on how we can build on that. His familiarity with our offense, our players, and the staff will ensure the continuity that is crucial for sustained success.”
The offense ranked in the top five in both passing and running and averaged 399 yards per game in total offense. The Bucs’ offense was the only team in the NFL to rank in the top five in 2024 in both passing yards (third, 250.4) and rushing yards (fourth, 149.2) per game.
With Grizzard as pass coordinator, the Buccaneers offense finished in the top ten in the league and showed substantial gains in the run game. Under Grizzard, quarterback Baker Mayfield set career highs in passing yards with 4,500. He also passed for 41 touchdowns and completed 71 percent of his passes. For Mayfield, this will be the eighth offensive coordinator he has played for in eight seasons.
Grizzard has been in Tampa just one season after spending the last seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins in various coaching roles. He was the Dolphins receivers coach in 2023 before becoming the Buccaneers game-day passing coordinator in 2024.
The 35-year-old Grizzard was one of six candidates the Buccaneers interviewed for offensive coordinator. The promotion of Grizzard should help maintain continuity for the offense and quarterback Baker Mayfield.
