Marlins Drop Final Game of the Series to the Mets, 6-0

Braxton Garrett had the start for the Miami Marlins on Sunday, and it was not a productive day for the left hander. In the bottom of the first, Brandon Nimmo doubled, followed by a Starling Marte single, and a Lindor single. Mark Canha was walked with the bases loaded, leading to the Mets first run.

In the bottom of the third, the Mets extended their lead to three runs. JD Davis and Jeff McNeil were on base leading up to a sacrifice fly from Eduardo Escobar that led to JD Davis scoring from third to home. In the next at-bat, McNeil came from third to home on a wild pitch.

The Marlins then responded with one hit from Luke Williams and then Jazz Chisholm was walked. The two on-bases didn’t result in a run. In the last of the fifth, Pete Alonso hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Brandon Nimmo.

Miguel Rojas led the Marlins in hitting as he went 2-of-4. One came as a single to left and one came as a single to right.

David Peterson combined with three relievers on the Mets side for a 7-hitter shutout.

Trevor Rogers allowed three earned runs, bumping up his ERA to 5.83. This is more than double last year’s performance.

The Marlins head to the Rockies for a three-game series starting Tuesday night.
