Game two of three against the Seattle Mariners was taken by the Miami Marlins. Through great pitching and timely offense, the Fish were able to hold on for the lead and take the series win against Seattle. The Marlins advance to a record of 12 wins and 8 losses. Meanwhile, the Mariners fall to a record of 11 wins and 10 losses. This win puts the Marlins at three games back of the first-place Mets in the NL East.

Recap

Miami Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo had an outstanding night on the mound. Luzardo pitched six innings, allowing only two hits and one run. The Mariners’ one run came courtesy of a home run by Mariners right fielder Dylan Moore in the third inning. Luzardo threw 91 pitches and struck out five batters while walking two.

On the opposite side, reigning American League Cy Young winner Robbie Ray started off hot, striking out five of the first six Marlins and cruised through the first four innings but struggled mightily in the fifth inning. In the fifth, Miami exploded for all three of their runs in the game. Third baseman Brian Anderson started off the bottom frame with a double and shortly after Center Fielder Bryan De La Cruz drove him in with a single up the middle. Second Baseman Jon Berti singled on a line drive to extend the Marlins leads to two and lastly Garrett Cooper had a quality at-bat and drew a walk to make it three-to-one.

The Marlins bullpen shut down the Mariners offense late in the game thanks to stellar outings by Bass, Sulser, and Bender.
