Jaguars Select RB Snoop Conner with 154th Overall Pick

The Jacksonville Jaguars took running back Snoop Conner in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Conner was a talented back for the Ole Miss Rebels, guiding the team to its first 10-win season. Now, Conner will likely play a backup role during his rookie season to get more accustomed to the Jaguars’ offense. Here’s more about Conner’s impressive tenure in college and his potential in the NFL.

Conner’s College Career

Conner was a consistent player for the Rebels, playing virtually every game during his three years in Oxford. He was an underrated prospect from the class of 2019, but he quickly earned a starting spot on Lane Kiffin’s offense.

Conner has a low center of gravity, which makes his game reminiscent of Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Although he wasn’t a first-round pick, Conner went up against the best of the best in the SEC, which makes him ready for the NFL.

In 2021, Conner finished with 13 touchdowns, which was equal to his combined total touchdowns from 2019 and 2020. Obviously, having a quarterback like Matt Corral on his side made the running game easier for him; regardless, Conner has proven that he can thrive in a balanced offense, much like what is needed in Jacksonville.

Conner’s NFL Potential

Conner has the ability to play a big role in Jacksonville’s offense much like Nick Chubb does for the Cleveland Browns. Conner had no receiving touchdowns during his time at Ole Miss, but Doug Pederson can definitely make that a part of his game. Travis Etienne and Conner could become a dynamic duo in the backfield within the next few years.

Moreover, Conner serves as a great pass-blocker, and he might need to help out Trevor Lawrence behind the Jaguars’ horrid offensive front. In passing situations, expect Conner to get a lot of plays, especially on third down.

Concluding Thoughts

Snoop Conner - Football - Ole Miss Athletics

This season, Conner will have to focus on his development to earn a key role on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense. He’s a prospect that’s gone unnoticed by many NFL teams, but Trent Baalke has the right idea to incorporate Conner into coach Pederson’s scheme. It’s only a matter of time before the Jaguars’ offense becomes lethal.
