The Comeback Cats Were Back At It, Defeat the Sabres

The Florida Panthers have performed another one of their famous “Comeback Tricks”, with Sam Bennett scoring in the last 30 seconds to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3. With their win, Florida improves to 50-15-6, and continue to shatter records, breaking the 50-win plateau for the first time in team history.

First Period:

The Sabres would get the first power play at 4:29 when Sam Bennett was called for a hook. As the power play was expiring, the Sabres would draw first blood when Peyton Krebs passed across-ice to Victor Olofsson, then Olofsson would shoot it far side past Sergei Bobrovsky.

Tage Thompson would get a penalty for tripping at 7:50, and the Panthers would go to work. Florida would tie the game at 8:45 when Claude Giroux slapped a Jonathan Huberdeau feed to the side of the net past Tokarski for his 20th of the year.

20 seconds later, a former Panther would give the Sabres the lead again when Mark Pysyk would get a failed Anton Lundell clear, and Pysyk would bury it past traffic for his third of the year. Jeff Skinner would have his 30th to extend the Sabres lead to 3-1 when Tage Thompson would set Skinner up in front of the goal line to bury a backhander past Bobrovsky.

Second Period

The Comeback Cats decided to wake up this period, and they would start early by dominating the period in shots, outshooting the Sabres 17-3 in the period.

The Panthers would cut the lead to 3-2 midway through the period when Patric Hornqvist would pounce on a rebound behind the net and it would pinball off of Dustin Tokarski.

After a dirty hit on Claude Giroux by Jeff Skinner, the Panthers would go on another power play where they were already very effective. It would come in clutch again when Aleksander Barkov would shoot it through traffic, and Sam Reinhart would tip it in to tie the game at three.

Third Period:

Both teams would have multiple chances to take the lead throughout the entire period, but failed.

Ultimately, it would be the Panthers, once again, that came up clutch. Aleksander Barkov would set up Sam Bennett perfectly with 30 seconds remaining, and Bennett would net the game-winner from the side of the net for his 100th career NHL goal.

The game ended perfectly when there was a line brawl to end it all. Good night. The Comeback Cats are always here.
