The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed veteran CB Richard Sherman to a one-year deal, worth $2.25M.
Sherman, a five-time Pro Bowler, will join a crowded cornerback squad that consists of Carlton Davis III, Ross Cockrell, Jamel Dean, and Dee Delaney.
The 33-year-old cornerback arrives in Tampa with the defending Super Bowl champions coming off a 34-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Sherman, who has tons of playoff experience, isn’t going to be the dynamic game-changer he was at his peak with the Seattle Seahawks. However, he’s still capable of locking down opposing receivers.
According to reports, Sherman met with the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers. However, the Buccaneers gave him the best offer.
“I went with the best offer I had, the best opportunity to go out there and put some great tape on, to lead another group,” Sherman said. “I feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to go out there and execute and help that team win.”
Sherman is already in Tampa Bay, practicing with the team. However, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be playing his first game for the team in New England this weekend.
