The New York Mets were once again in town for a three-game series with the Miami Marlins.
Despite Miami having ten hits, the final score of Tuesday’s ballgame totaled nine runs for the Mets and only four for the Fish. Pete Alonso’s historic day at the plate combined with the Mets bullpen excelled New York to the victory on a rainy Tuesday night in Miami, FL. The Mets now sit at 70-69, four games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East race. Meanwhile, the Marlins have dropped to a record of 57-81.
Recap
Both teams battled back and forth through the first three innings with the score being tied at four. After a few costly errors, the Marlins found themselves down by three runs only three innings later in the sixth inning. Marlins starter Edward Cabrera struggled in finding the strike zone on Tuesday night. Cabrera walked four batters over his two innings of work. He also allowed four earned runs on one hit.
The story of Tuesday’s game was slugger Pete Alonso. Alonso blasted a shot over the left field fence at loanDepot park in the first inning. The homer was No. 100 of his young career. However, 100 career home runs weren’t enough; Alonso homered again in the ninth inning off of newly acquired Marlins pitcher Taylor Williams.
Both Miami and New York had three errors each, which marked for a sloppy game in the books. The Marlins have the third-most errors in Major League Baseball, totaling 94 on the season.
