Mike Inglis to Step Down as Miami Heat Radio Announcer

Mike Inglis to Retire from Sports Broadcasting

Miami Heat radio voice and play-by-play announcer Mike Inglis stepped down from his position on Tuesday.

A near fifty-year veteran at broadcasting, Inglis has called games for multiple leagues across professional sports. Miami stood as the last stop along the journey.

“Words could never describe how grateful I am to have had the privilege of broadcasting for the best sports organization in the Miami Heat,” Mike Inglis said after stepping down. “The past 23 years have been filled with friendships and experiences, that in my wildest dreams, I could have never imagined.”

Inglis served as the man on the call for all six of the Heat’s NBA finals appearances. He witnessed the team bring titles home in 2006, 2012 and 2013.

“Mike has always been a very colorful but straightforward broadcaster and it’s been a pleasure to work with him during his 23 seasons calling many magical moments for this franchise,” legend Pat Riley said. When you spend nearly 30 years calling games in the NBA, you’ve definitely had a long and glorious career.”

The Heat’s longtime man on the call showed up in the booth for a whopping 2,200 games. That number includes 216 playoff duels and 23 years worth of experience.

What’s Next

As of right now, Miami has no replacement named for Inglis. The Heat are expected to access some of the local viable options prior to the preseason opener against Atlanta.
