Braves Rally Late, Defeat Marlins 2-0

A warm and sunny Tuesday evening featured the Miami Marlins taking on the Atlanta Braves for the second game of a three-game set in Miami, Florida. Timely pitching was the biggest impact in this game as the Braves used five pitchers for a nine-inning shutout of the Marlins. The Braves advance to 64-56 as the Marlins now hold a 51-69 record on the season.

Recap

Both starting pitchers were tremendous in this game as the offense for each team was virtually non-existent. However, the Braves were able to capitalize a crucial error by the Marlins on a wild pitch as Jorge Soler drove in the eventual winning run. Then, in the ninth inning, third baseman Austin Riley stepped up to the plate for the Braves and launched a home run to straight-away center field, giving the visitors a two to zero lead.

A bright spot for the Marlins was once again starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara tossed eight strong innings while only allowing five hits and one earned run. Alcantara also totaled seven strikeouts and only one walk.

With the Philadelphia Phillies loss against the Diamondbacks, the Braves now lead the NL East by two-and-a-half games. There are 42 games remaining in the Major League Baseball season.
