The Miami Heat closed out the Summer League with an 83-82 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. In total, the Heat finished with a 4-3 overall record and a 2-3 record in Las Vegas.
Takeaways From Summer League
The Miami Heat played well, despite finishing with two straight losses. Here are some players that made a huge impact in the Summer League:
Omer Yursteven
Yursteven, 23, averaged 20.0 PPG, 9.7 RPG and 1.7 APG in three Summer League games. The Turkish center also shot 48.0% from the field and 27.3% from behind the arc. In addition, he averaged 2.7 blocks per game.
Yurtseven’s magnificent performance impressed the Heat. This earned him a two-year deal in which the 23-year-old has the opportunity to come in and provide some real quality minutes for Miami.
Max Strus
Strus, 25, averaged 20.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG and 2.5 APG on 39.1% shooting from the field and 40.0% shooting from three-point range in four Summer League games.
Strus’ play in the Summer League has been nothing short of fantastic. In addition to making a game-winning three in double overtime, Strus shot efficiently on a very high volume of shots. The 25-year-old also finished top ten in scoring.
Other Notable Performers
Marcus Garrett was one of the best defensive players in the whole Summer League. Miami will likely give Garrett a two-way deal, thanks to his amazing Summer League performance, in which he averaged 8.8 PPG, 4.6 RPG and 2.8 SPG.
KZ Okpala also performed well, averaging 8.4 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 2.0 APG. However, he will have to improve his shooting splits; Okpala shot just 23.5 percent from both the field overall and three-point range.
