Anthony Rizzo Leads The Way Again, Yankees Sweep Marlins

Sandy Alcantara’s gem on Sunday afternoon wasn’t enough as the Miami Marlins got swept by the New York Yankees.

Recap

Miami struck first as Miguel Rojas led off the bottom of the first inning with a 106-mph laser off the left center field wall for a stand-up double. An infield single from Jazz Chisholm Jr. advanced Rojas to third base, and Brian Anderson followed with a groundout to third to score him. That gave Miami a 1-0 lead, a score that would continue until the eighth inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, Anthony Rizzo, the newly-acquired Yankee, drove in the Yankees’ first run with a game-tying single. Later in the inning, Aaron Judge hit an RBI single to give New York their first lead of the game. However, the Yankees weren’t done yet. In the top of the ninth, Brett Gardner bounced a ball that should have been an inning-ending grounder to Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base. However, Jazz threw the ball away, giving New York a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Aroldis Chapman headed to the mound to protect the two-run lead. The All-Star did just that, pitching a one-two-three ninth. Chapman now has 22 saves on the season, and stretched his scoreless streak to six innings.

Despite the loss, Sandy Alcantara allowed only two hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings. Meanwhile, Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery allowed a run on three hits with five strikeouts in five innings.
