With the 33rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have selected CB Tyson Campbell out of the University of Georgia.
Tyson Campbell
Tyson Campbell, 21-years-old, is a fast and physical corner, which fits the description of what HC Urban Meyer wants in his players. Campbell is one of the more electrifying man-defense cornerback prospects in this class. His agility, matched with his size and speed in the open field, bring together an athletic prospect who already has a knack for the cornerback position.
Playing at 6’2″ and 185 pounds, Campbell clocked in at a 4.39 40-time, an impressive feat. He started all 10 games of his final season at Georgia, tying the team-high with five pass breakups in 2020. In his career at Georgia (33 career games), Campbell recorded 89 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one interception. The 21-year-old also had 11 passes defended, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries. He also scored two defensive touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Overall, Jacksonville drafted a top cornerback, one that fared well against one of the best college receivers.
Did you know: Campbell is a product of American Heritage high school in Plantation, FL.
Comparison: Campbell can be compared to William Jackson II of the Washington Football Team. In terms of size and athleticism, Dee Milliner is a logical comparison. Campbell’s ceiling as a player might be Kyle Fuller.
Conclusion: The Jaguars made a home run pick at No. 33. Many believed Campbell would be a first rounder.
