Jevon Holland Selected by the Miami Dolphins

With the 36th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins have selected S Jevon Holland out of the University of Oregon.

Jevon Holland

At 6’1″, 207 pounds, Jevon Holland was the first safety taken in the draft. In three years at Oregon, Holland appeared in 27 games as a freshman and sophomore. He recorded 108 tackles, 10 passes defensed and 9 interceptions with a touchdown. However, Holland opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

Jevon Holland can be an immediate impact as part of a Dolphins secondary. He has great size for a safety, and can cover the underneath and stop the run. Many scouts note that he has great instincts and will fly around the field to make plays with his big body. Holland has a knack to have a hard hitting mentality and that has earned him the player comparison to the “Honey Badger” Tyrann Mathieu.

Holland was also one of three FBS players with four or more interceptions in each of the last two years (prior to opting out). He also became the first Oregon player the team in INTs two-consecutive years since Jairus Byrd (2006 & 2007).

This is no-doubt a great pick that will help the Dolphins defense, especially with the defensive mastermind that Head Coach Brian Flores can be. Holland has experience playing free safety, in the box and as a slot corner. If nothing else, Holland should be someone who can contribute right away in sub packages, and he has the potential to be a valuable starter.
