Trevor Lawrence Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars

With the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars have selected QB Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson University.

Trevor Lawrence

Surprised?

We imagine the answer is most likely not. Just in case you haven’t figured it out yet, this year’s first overall selection qualifies as arguably the most anticipated NFL prospect to come out of college since Andrew Luck, and for good reason.

At first glance, the first thing you might notice about Lawrence is the unusually long hair for a football player. One not need to be fooled, though, because there is a lot more to this guy than just the looks. The 6’6″, 215 pound quarterback rushed onto the national spotlight in high school, and ever since then, his dominance has been on full display to the football world.

Lawrence put up ridiculous numbers from the get-go at Clemson, throwing for 30 touchdowns and only four interceptions in his inaugural season at the university. His incredible efforts both skill-wise and leadership-wise helped the school capture their second national championship under head coach Dabo Swinney. Oh, and did we forget to mention the fact that Lawrence finished with a record of 34-2 as a starter in college? If so, it’s good to know that this guy is the embodiment of a true winner. No matter what the score or hardships his team may be pressured with, Lawrence will fight for every last down on every last play. His passion for the game is what makes him so successful, and it’s safe to say that Clemson wouldn’t have likely been the same without him.

However, the greatness with this generational talent of a quarterback goes beyond mental toughness.

What Makes Lawrence Great

While his passion for winning qualifies as the ultimate reason for his success, Lawrence possesses multiple other traits that make him stand out from the rest. The most obvious positive characteristic of Lawrence is his ability to throw the football. For starters, he’s got an absolutely killer deep ball. He can throw at an extremely efficient rate to just about any level or part of the field.

Oh, and don’t think for a second he’s some immobile quarterback that only stays in the pocket. Lawrence can run the football just as efficiently and dangerously as he can throw it. His 943 rushing yards and 18 TD’s at Clemson speak for themselves, and any team that leaves him unchecked will pay a brutal price.

So, if there’s a moral of the story, it’s that he can basically do it all.

What Members of the Jaguars Organization Think About Lawrence

When asked a month ago about the inevitable possibility of drafting Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer didn’t shy away from responding to the spotlight. In fact, the first year NFL HC wasted no time in praising the incredibly talented prospect.

As Meyer stated, “Trevor checks all the boxes, you know? The number one common quality of every great player, not just quarterback, is competitive maniac. He’s 34-2. Won a national title as a true freshman. Is a winner. I’ve seen him up close and in person compete. And then character.”

Unsurprisingly, Meyer wasn’t the only one in Jacksonville to weigh in on the excitement. A vast amount of both members and fans of the Jaguars organization expressed their extreme giddiness when given the opportunity. This included none other than Jags owner Shad Khan. It’s safe to say Khan has faced many hardships and struggles as the owner of the franchise, so he certainly didn’t hold back on his excitement for the possibility of success.

As Khan stated, “It’s unbelievable. If this isn’t a moment to enjoy for me and for all the Jags fans, you need more coffee or you need something else. This is a great-to-be-alive kind of moment, frankly.

Khan, Meyer, and anyone else involved in supporting Duval county’s beloved team will now get to see that dream come true.

A Match Made in Heaven

A generational talent at the quarterback position and a team in desperate need of one. Sure, there have been some other great talents out of college, but this qualifies as arguably the closest you’ll even get to a match made in heaven from the NFL Draft. The Jaguars have struggled to find a franchise quarterback for what seems to be ages now. But now, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel for both the organization and its fans.

There’s a good chance Trevor Lawrence won’t be the greatest thing ever, straight out of the gate in the NFL. However, he sure does seem to be the key for success in Duval County.
