Spurs Blow Out Magic in Lopsided Game

Following a buzzer-beater win on Sunday night, the Spurs maintained their momentum by blowing out Orlando 120-97 on the road. Seven Spurs players scored double digits, with DeMar DeRozan leading the way with 19 points and six assists in only three quarters of work. Meanwhile, R.J. Hampton led Orlando with 16 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting from off the bench.

Takeaways

Magic

The Magic are now 2-8 in their last 10 games and have lost six straight. This is expected, though, after the Magic shipped a lot of their main contributors at the trade deadline.

In addition to R.J. Hampton’s solid game from off the bench, Wendell Carter Jr. pitched in 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. In total, Orlando shot 45% from the floor and made only 5-of-20 three-pointers.

Spurs

The Spurs had a well-balanced attack all game, both on offense and defense. DeRozan made 7-of-11 shots for a Spurs squad that shot 51.6%.

“We started a bit slow, but they took it seriously and respected their opponent,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “Orlando is in a tough spot right now, but they’re trying.”

Mo Bamba Injury

Center Mo Bamba only played three minutes before exiting with a hip injury on Monday night. The Magic hope he can be back soon, as the 22-year-old center has shown flashes lately. Bamba has had four straight 10+ point performances, putting up 21 points and knocking down five three-pointers in his last game against the Bucks.
