Dewayne Dedmon Signs With Miami

The Miami Heat have signed free agent center Dewayne Dedmon.

Dewayne Dedmon

Dedmon, an NBA veteran and seven-footer, actually began his NBA career on Miami’s 2013 summer league team. The 31-year-old last played in 2019-20, where he split time between the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks.

And in 2019-20, Dedmon averaged 8.1 points and 8.2 rebounds for Atlanta before the season was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the Kings and Hawks, Dedmon has spent time with the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and San Antonio Spurs.

For his career, Dedmon has logged 6.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, shooting 51.6 percent from the field. But he hasn’t shot higher than 50 percent from the field since the 2017-18 season.

Impact on Miami

The alumnus of Antelope Valley College and USC will add a much-needed big man to Miami’s rotation. He is a solid defender that blocks shots, rebounds well and can stretch the floor offensively. And most importantly, he will replace the losses of Kelly Olynyk, Chris Silva, and Meyers Leonard, who were all traded. So hopefully, Dedmon can make an impact for the Heat, and give them another option at the center position.
