Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky Stymies Red Wings

The Florida Panthers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Tuesday night. Sergei Bobrovsky had one of his best games of the season, stopping 35 out of 36 shots.

Game Recap

The Cats got off to an early start in Tuesday’s game. Just 17 seconds in, Jonathan Huberdeau patiently got a puck past Red Wings goalie Calvin Pickard. Later in the period, both Carter Verhaeghe and Brett Connolly scored 58 seconds apart, making the score 3-0. Connolly’s goal was the 100th of his career, and chased Pickard out of the net (Thomas Greiss came in).

In the second period, Detroit finally got on the board, on a power-play goal by Filip Zadina.

“It took us too long to get into this game,” Red Wings center Dylan Larkin said.

But minutes later, Verhaeghe would score his second goal of the game, to stretch the Panthers’ lead to 4-1, the final score in Sunrise.

Postgame Quotes

Brett Connolly on goal No. 100: “It was good. Good to see one go in the net. But the team’s playing well and it’s good to see the guys stepping up, filling in, and playing a really good hockey game tonight.”

Carter Verhaeghe: “We’re on a three-game win streak now after a three-game losing streak and it just shows the resiliency of this team… Everyone’s been stepping up and that’s what you have to do if you want to win in this league.”

Sergei Bobrovsky: “We had a great start, up 3-0, then we had some good composure and played our game. It’s a great win. We keep building and it’s definitely fun.”

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill: “It’s as bad as we’ve played defensively in a while. We weren’t at our best. We had a bunch of guys that played their ‘B’ and ‘C’ games.”
