Brandin Podziemski, aka Tyler Herro 2.0, is the NEXT basketball star out of Wisconsin.
Brandin Podziemski
Podziemski, a 6’6 SG out of St. John’s NW Military Academy, became the first player in state history to score 2,000 points without making varsity as a freshman, earning Wisconsin’s 2021 Mr. Basketball Award. NBA players that have won this prestigious award include Wesley Matthews (Madison Memorial) and Kevon Looney (Milwaukee Hamilton). The class of 2021 stud already has 13 offers, according to ESPN, but has narrowed his choices down to five. These schools include Miami, Wake Forest, Illinois, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky.
The Miami Hurricanes, who have already recruited the four-star athlete, have shown much interest in Podziemski. Matter of fact, Podziemski and Head Coach of the Miami Hurricanes Jim Larrañaga speak weekly.
Podziemski on the Hurricanes’ basketball program: “In terms of their team, I’ve been having great conversations with coach Larrañaga. To see guys like Lonnie Walker and Bruce Brown, their development into NBA players is positive along with there being a good chance to play. Also, getting to the next level is important and there are lots of connections down there.”
Podziemski averaged 35.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 4.3 steals and 1.3 blocked shots while helping the Lancers to a 21-7 record during his senior year. “Tyler Herro 2.0” is a big time shooter from deep, who also has the strength to get to the rim and finish.
Now that Podziemski is down to his final five offers, he will take the next few weeks to make a decision. But the decision will likely come after the high school season, with Podziemski currently chasing a state title.
