Our previous article has focused on the Florida Panthers’ home schedule for the upcoming season. It’s the Bolts’ time!
The team from the Bay isn’t as active in the offseason as its rivals from South Florida. There haven’t been any major deals or discussions. Recently, the Lightning signed a newly drafted Ethan Czata to a standard, three-year, entry-level contract. On the other hand, Hockey Canada announced that Lightning mental performance coach, Dr. Ryan Hamilton, will join John Cooper, Julien BriseBois, and Brayden Point on their Olympic journey in Italy in 2026. But it all starts with a preseason schedule.
Preseason
While specific dates for the Prospect Camp and Rookie Showcase have not been announced yet, the final event will be in Wesley Chapel, FL. After the NHL training camp, medicals, testing, and media day are completed, the Bolts will play seven preseason games. One of them will take Florida hockey further than the usual locations. The Panthers and Lightning will meet on Sept.30 in Central Florida. The NBA’s Orlando Magic and the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears share a home, Kia Center, which is fully equipped to host the NHL’s in-state rivalry.
Regular Season
Last year, a scheduled home opener against the Carolina Hurricanes was postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Milton. The game was rescheduled from Oct. 12, 2024, to Jan. 7, 2025. The actual first match of the season took place on October 15 against the Vancouver Canucks.
This time around, Amalie Arena will officially welcome local and Ottawa Senators fans on Oct. 9. The Lightning will host two Eastern and four Western opponents in October. It’s a relatively chill month with some room to adjust and skate smoothly into the season. November (7), December (7), and March (8) are the busiest months for home fans. The Bolts will return to Tampa after a three-game road trip, and the nerve-wrecking fun starts against the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers. The Florida-based neighbors will face each other four times, with the first meeting scheduled for Oct. 15 in Sunrise. To keep the holiday spirits up, the Lightning will host the Panthers on December 15 and visit the “cats” right after Christmas, on December 27.
Two of the busiest home days for the Bolts and their fans are Thursday’s (11) and Saturday’s (9), with zero games played on Friday’s.
The Lightning players, coaches, and staff will have to ring in the New Year in California with a three-game road trip. They will face the Anaheim Ducks on December 31 and the LA Kings on January 1.
One of the best parts of the Lightning’s 2025-26 regular season is a much-anticipated outdoor game against the Boston Bruins at Raymond James Stadium. The city knows how to host outstanding world-class sports events from the NCAA Frozen Four to the MLS preseason derby between Inter Miami and Orlando City. The ice battle under the Florida sun will take place on Feb. 1 and will be the first “under the open sky” hockey game in the Tampa area. As a reminder, the Florida Panthers will organize their hockey paradise event, featuring the New York Rangers, as a part of the 2026 Winter Classic. Can it get bigger than that for Florida teams and sports tourism?!
Before the Olympic break, the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions will visit the “Champa Bay” one more time on Feb.5. Then, there will be a 19-day break in the NHL, with each team taking a mandatory week-off period. The Bolts will enjoy seven consecutive home games at the end of March and through the beginning of April, but will finish their regular season with four home and four away games.
International competitions require a greater commitment and more thorough preparation. Some of the confirmed Lightning players who will head to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games are: Victor Hedman (Team Sweden), Brayden Point (Team Canada), Oliver Bjorkstrand (Team Denmark), Erik Cernak (Team Slovakia), and Zemgus Girgensons (Team Latvia). It’s interesting to see how John Cooper will balance his NHL coaching duties with his responsibilities for Team Canada. How will this challenge impact the entire organization?
It will be a different kind of season for Tampa.
