UCF Loses in Extras, Setting Up a Crucial Rubber Match on Sunday

LUBBOCK, TX — In a game defined by elite pitching and tense momentum swings, the Texas Tech Red Raiders bounced back in dramatic fashion to edge out UCF 3-2 in extra innings Saturday night, keeping their postseason hopes alive and delaying UCF’s push up the Big 12 standings.

It was a classic pitcher’s duel that stretched deep into the night, with Texas Tech’s bullpen duo of Tyler Boudreau and Jack Cebert stealing the spotlight. Boudreau, in particular, was electric—striking out six batters over five innings of shutout in what was arguably his best outing of the season. Cebert matched him with five high-leverage frames of his own, holding the line as the Red Raiders clawed back into the game.

UCF didn’t go quietly. In the top of the first, Andrew Williamson continued his scorching hot series by launching his second homer of the weekend (both homers coming in the first inning), giving the Knights an early lead. The slugger finished 2-for-3, forcing Texas Tech to intentionally walk him in his final two plate appearances—a clear sign of respect and fear from the Red Raider dugout.

Yet even with Williamson’s bat and another strong start from UCF’s pitching staff it wasn’t enough, the difference in the game came down to one swing—Damion Bravo’s.

With the game tied in the bottom of the tenth, the Red Raiders’ star stepped into a moment made for him and delivered, hammering a solo shot into the left field stands to walk it off in style. The crowd erupted as Bravo trotted the bases, his homer sealing a hard-earned win and injecting life back into Texas Tech’s clubhouse.

Now, with the series tied and both teams scrapping for position in the Big 12 standings, Sunday’s rubber match carries massive implications.

Especially for UCF.

BYU’s loss to Kansas earlier in the day opened a window for the Knights. A win tomorrow would vault them over the Cougars into 12th place, keeping their postseason dreams intact as the Big 12 Tournament looms.

Sunday’s finale isn’t just another regular season game—it’s survival.
