No. 2 FSU Baseball Run-Rules Jacksonville 14-2

The No. 2 Florida State Seminoles faced off against Jacksonville on Tuesday night, sending Jacob Marlowe to the mound against Dolphins starter Garrett Corbett. Coming off a 20-9 win over Clemson on Sunday, the Seminoles looked to keep their offensive momentum going.

Marlowe got the start but recorded no strikeouts, allowing three hits before being replaced by Maison Martinez in the fourth inning. Corbett, meanwhile, tallied four strikeouts and gave up two hits before exiting.

Alex Lodise got things started with a single in the first inning, and Chase Williams ended the second with a highlight-reel catch on a pop fly.

Florida State’s bats came alive in the fourth. Chase Williams scored on a wild pitch, and Maxx Williams followed with a two-run single to stretch the Seminoles’ lead to 5-0.

Drew Faurot continued the onslaught with a solo home run in the fifth, as FSU’s pitching staff combined for six strikeouts while allowing just three hits through five innings. The Seminoles led 7-0 heading into the bottom half of the frame.

Florida State poured it on in the fifth, cycling through the lineup and tacking on nine runs to extend their lead to 14-0 on 11 total hits. With the offense firing on all cylinders, the Seminoles positioned themselves for a run-rule victory to close out the night.

Ben Barrett came on in the sixth and allowed two runs while striking out two. In the seventh, Hudson Rowan closed things out as the Seminoles secured the run-rule, 14-2.

Florida State plays California on Friday, looking to stay hot.
