Jacksonville Jaguars Slip Up and Lose to the Undefeated Philadelphia Eagles, 21-29

On a rainy windy afternoon in Philadelphia, the Eagles continued their early season dominance and beat the Jaguars to improve to 4-0. Jacksonville played easily their worst game of the season but still finds themselves sitting at 2-2 and as the number one team in the AFC South.

Jacksonville got off to an extremely hot start which included a pick-six by Andre Cisco and a four-yard touchdown by Jamal Agnew to jump out to an early 14-0 lead. From that point forward, everything went the Eagles’ way and they soared back into this ball game. Philadelphia would rattle off 29 unanswered points including three rushing touchdowns by different players to close the first half. Jalen Hurts converted a three-yard rushing touchdown on fourth and goal, Miles Sanders had a ten-yard touchdown, and Kenneth Gainwell got into the endzone as well.

The second half featured continued dominance by the Eagles as they would go up 29-14 halfway through the fourth quarter. With their back to the wall, Jacksonville was able to go 68 yards in less than two minutes to get Jamal Agnew his second score of the game. Down 21-29, the Jaguars stopped Jalen Hurts and company with 1:54 remaining in the game and they had one last opportunity to drive down the field and tie the game up. The first play resulted in a Trevor Lawrence fumble recovered by the Eagles which sealed a Philadelphia victory.

Trevor Lawrence flashed at moments but played the worst game of his young career Sunday afternoon. Trevor finished 11/23 for 174 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, and 4 fumble losses. Jacksonville, who came into this game with the number one rushing defense in the NFL, gave up 210 yards rushing to the Eagles’ offense and got completely exploited. Even in the horrible weather conditions, we have to give credit to that Eagles pass rush for forcing fumbles and consistently pressuring Trevor Lawrence all afternoon.

Jaguar fans should still have a positive outlook on the remainder of the season, especially the next few weeks ahead. Jacksonville is still the number one team in the AFC South, the number three seed in the entire conference, and gets to go back home and take on the Texans.

After Houston, the Jaguars will travel to Indianapolis to take on a divisional rival, followed by the New York Giants, and the Denver Broncos in London. Jacksonville has an opportunity to capitalize on two more divisional wins in back-to-back weeks and it all begins this Sunday afternoon at TIAA Bank Field.
