Florida State Beats LSU in a Thriller, 24-23, Which Includes a Last-Second Blocked Extra Point

The Florida State Seminoles beat the LSU Tigers 24-23 on Sunday night. Now, there is more belief within the Florida State program to contend in the ACC. The Seminoles did not exactly play a complete game, but it’s hard to complain after a thrilling win. Here’s a recap of Florida State’s impressive win over LSU.

Jordan Travis: Incredible

Jordan Travis established himself as the true franchise quarterback against LSU. When a play needed to be made especially on third down, Travis came in clutch. Most of his throws were accurate, and his legs proved to be a luxury against LSU’s defensive front. The 22-year-old completed 20 of 32 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Receivers: Showed Up and Showed Out

Ontaria Wilson was the star receiver with more than 100 yards and two touchdowns. He caught an incredible one-handed catch in the end zone, which made him a more dependable target for Travis. Johnny Wilson showed how his incredible size benefits him as a receiver, and he was lethal in the middle of the field, recording 60 yards on three catches.

Defense: Needs Consistency

The Seminoles’ defensive line was great in this game, but that was partially due to the Tigers’ horrid offensive line. Florida State’s defense played great in the first half; however, when LSU started to play tempo on offense, the Seminoles struggled. The sidelines appeared to be wide open at times, and Florida State was kind of lucky that the Tigers made many mental errors.

Special Teams: Impressive

Malik Nabers muffed two punts, and the Seminoles’ special teams unit took full advantage of that. The kicking game may be a concern down the road, but Ryan Fitzgerald was fine near the end of the game. Punter Alex Mastromanno was able to flip the field, and it would’ve been nice if Mike Norvell used a trick play in the fourth quarter. Obviously, the physicality up front was a big reason for this win, resulting in the game-winning blocked extra point and a blocked field goal.

Concluding Thoughts

Overall, Florida State played great against LSU, but there’s room for improvement. The Seminoles were up 14 in the fourth quarter, and they could’ve put the game away earlier. The decisions to run a toss at the goal line and play safe defense on the final drive were questionable; still, the coaching staff called a fine game. Florida State fans should be pumped to be 2-0, and now it’s on to Louisville.
