It was a sunny day at the RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland as the Miami Marlins and the Oakland Athletics squared off in the season finale (game three). Pitching shined in this game and late inning/clutch hitting propelled the Athletics to an extra innings victory in the 10th. The Marlins have now hit 70 losses on the season with only 54 wins. Meanwhile, Oakland bumps up to a record of 46 wins and 79 loses.

If you wanted a fast game, you got what you wished for. The Marlins and A’s zipped through the first five innings at a pace of just one hour. Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo pitched a stellar five innings while not allowing a single hit. In addition, Athletics’ starter Cole Irvin was great as well. Luzardo finished with a line of seven innings pitched, allowing three hits and two runs with four punch outs. On the flip side, Irvin completed his day on the mound with seven innings pitched, allowing three hits and no runs on 11 strikeouts. Simply put, 11 strikeouts is an impressive amount by Oakland’s south paw.
Chad Pinder got the scoring party started in the 6th inning with a two RBI single. However, the Marlins came back in the 8th and 9th. Miguel Rojas came through with a huge hit in the 8th to bring home Peyton Burdick. In the 9th, with Miami down to their final two strikes, catcher Nick Fortes launched a solo home run into left field to tie the game at two.
In extra innings, Marlins reliever Richard Bleier had a chance to take the game to the 11th but he was unable to do so as Skye Bolt of Oakland hit a sacrifice fly to win the game for the A’s.
