The Miami Hurricanes Are Dominating Recruiting After an Elite 8 Run

Season Recap

The Miami Hurricanes, fresh off a season where they had a historic run to the Elite 8, eventually falling to Kansas in blowout fashion, look to build on last season while recruiting a top 25 class.

They return the heavy hitter in Isaiah Wong, while there were many questions on if he’d go pro or return to Miami. Although they do return Wong, they lose a big one in Kameron McGusty, a five-year senior who averaged 17.5 PPG for the Canes last season. They also lose Charlie Moore and Waardenburg from their starting five, making that only two players returning from the Elite 8 starting five. Off the bench, they lose Deng Gak, who has signed with the Ballarat Miners to continue his professional career.

Anyway, here are the transfers Miami is losing and gaining, along with the 23rd ranked Freshman class, as we get a day closer to college basketball season, the best sport this world has ever seen.

Miami was able to add two former four-star players. The first player added to the squad is Nijel Pack, a former four-star Point Guard from Kansas State, who averaged 17.4 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, 45.7 FG%, and 43.6 3P%. He firmly fills the hefty shoes of Kameron Gusty, who left to go pro. Miami also added a big man in a former Power Forward from Arkansas State, Norchard Omier. He averaged 17.2 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 1.2 APG, 64.7 FG%, and 33.3 3P%. Simply, he is an upgrade over Sam Waardenburg while doing more on the defensive end, at least in the Sun Belt. This was a plus for Hurricane fans, as they get two double digit scorers to pair with Star and Captain Isaiah Wong.

The Freshmen

AJ Casey – 6’8 180 LBs Power Forward 4 Star Recruit

Averaged 22/10/3 along with 2.3 steals a game, creating issues for opposing teams on the defensive end of the floor. He should be a great player with plenty of potential in years to come for the Canes.

Favour Aire – 6’11 215 LBs Center 4 Star Recruit

He was a double double machine in high school, averaging 14 points and 14 boards a game. He is lengthy and physical and will bring that edge to Miami.

Christian Watson – 6’6 195 LBs Small Forward 3 Star Recruit

Watson averaged a very solid 17 points a game along with two assists and three boards a game. He created havoc on the defensive end as well as future teammate Aire, averaging two blocks and a steal a game.

Danilo Jovanovich – 6’7 200 LBs Small Forward 3 Star Recuit

Averaged 22/7/2 as a Junior and was named the player of the year in the Woodland East Conference in 2020-21.

I will have more on these respective Freshman as we get closer to the season, but as always, thanks for the read and Go Canes!
