Marlins Crush Four Home Runs, Defeat Nationals 12-2

After a much-needed day off on Monday, the Miami Marlins were back in action on Tuesday against the National League East last-place Washington Nationals. The first game of a three game series that will complete this home stand for the Marlins turned into a huge win. Great pitching, and outstanding hitting lead the Marlins to a 12-2 victory. To say the least, it was quite rare to see the Marlins put up such a large offensive showing at loanDepot Park.

Recap

The offense for the Marlins started strong and fast. In the second inning, after loading the bases, Catcher Nick Fortes plated the first run of the game on an RBI single to right field. Right after, Second Baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a grand slam to give the Marlins a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

In the fourth inning, Fortes went deep on the first pitch of the at-bat to make it an 8-0 game. In the same inning, Left Fielder Jorge Soler hit a two run bomb to make it 10-0.

In the fifth, flashy Jazz hit yet another home run to give him two for the game and ten on the season, making it a 12-0 game.

Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera was stellar on the mound. Cabrera pitched a solid six innings allowing only two hits and one run with four strikeouts. The bullpen held it down as well with Bleier, Head and Sulser to close out the game.

Nationals starter Joan Adon struggled with command and could not find a groove as he gave up eight runs on seven hits in only three innings. For Adon, that is his 10th loss in the early MLB season.
