Panthers Defeat Ducks in OT, Win Streak Now At Eight Games

The Florida Panthers extended their win streak to eight games Tuesday night with an impressive overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Typically, in a game like this, the spotlight would be on a Florida Panther. However, the player that deserves the most recognition is goaltender Jon Gibson for the Anaheim Ducks. Gibson made so many masterful saves and kept the Ducks in the entire game without letting up. Gibson stopped 52 (yes, you heard that right) of 55 shots. Fortunately for the Panthers, that was not enough as Jonathon Huberdeau stole the eventual game-winning goal from the hearts of the Ducks and their fans. Specifically, Huberdeau stole the puck from Troy Terry and put the puck past Gibson on a second attempt shot. Huberdeau is currently riding a career-long 12 game point streak.

A huge bright spot for the Panthers was Forward Anthony Duclair. Duclair scored both Panthers goals to force overtime (30 goals on the season). The Panthers went one for three on the man advantage and had a huge margin of face-off wins. The Panthers won 62% of face-offs.

Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 of 24 shots to help the Panthers get the victory. With the win, the Panthers move to 110 points, tied with the Avalanche for the most points in the NHL.

Florida’s eight game winning streak is tied for the second longest in franchise history. The Panthers also tied their single-game club record with 55 shots on goal. Florida leads all NHL teams this season averaging 37.6 shots on goal per game.

After earning their 52nd win of the season and eighth win in a row, the Panthers look to continue their hot streak when they take on the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, April 15th. After the matchup against the Jets, Florida will travel to Detroit to play the Red Wings and New York to play the Islanders.
