The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-17 Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. While Indianapolis started off their season 0-3, they have now improved their record to 5-5. Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 2-7.
Recap
Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 16 of 35 passes for 162 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Lawrence also rushed five times for 33 yards including a fumble.
Tight end Dan Arnold was Jacksonville’s leading receiver, recording five catches for 67 yards. Other than Darnold’s contributions, the Jaguars’ air attack was non-existent.
However, the ground game had a major impact for Jacksonville. Jamal Agnew had three carries for 79 yards and a touchdown. James Robinson, who came in with a heel injury, had 12 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Overall, the Jaguars’ offense continued to struggle. Luckily, Jacksonville’s defense kept them in this game. However, Indianapolis’ special teams unit had other plans.
Colts kicker Michael Badgley provided 11 points by converting all three of his field goal attempts and a pair of PATs. Badgley hasn’t missed a kick since joining the Colts. Also, Colts linebacker and special teams captain Zaire Franklin blocked Logan Cooke’s punt early in the first quarter. Franklin then picked the ball up and ran 12 yards for the touchdown.
Despite the loss, the Jaguars have to be very pleased with their defensive performance.
