Joel Quenneville Is Out As Florida Panthers Head Coach

Joel Quenneville is officially out as the Florida Panthers head coach. Quenneville, 63, is the second-winningest NHL head coach of all time.

However, Quenneville’s time coaching in the NHL is now over.

Allegations

Quenneville was reportedly involved in a sexual assault investigation regarding his former team (the Chicago Blackhawks). Quenneville reportedly knew about the assault allegations against former Blackhawks video coach Brad Aldrich while he was head coach of the team.

New information recently came out in which Kyle Beach came forward as the anonymous former Blackhawks player who accused Aldrich of sexually assaulting him in 2010, during the team’s Stanley Cup title run.

Per reports, Quenneville was aware of the allegations, but the team didn’t act until weeks later, quietly asking Aldrich to resign or face an investigation.

Florida Panthers: “The conduct described in that report is troubling and inexcusable. It stands in direct contrast to our values as an organization and what the Florida Panthers stand for. No one should ever have to endure what Kyle Beach experienced…”
Panthers President Matt Caldwell: “Joel made the decision to resign.”

New Head Coach?

Reports list John Tortorella as a potential head coach candidate for Florida’s job opening. Tortorella, 62, is the winningest coach in Blue Jackets franchise history.

The Blue Jackets went 227-166-54 under Tortorella, including a franchise-best 50-24-8 finish in 2016-17. But the wheels fell off during a terrible 2020-21 season (18-26-12). That’s when Columbus decided to move on from his contract.

Currently, Tortorella serves as an ESPN analyst.
But for now, Andrew Brunette is Florida’s interim head coach.

  1. It’s a sad situation for the Panthers who it seems had nothing to do with this. Especially since they are off to such a great start.

  2. He had a great thing so it seemed in the wind city with the great 4 core Kane, Toews, Shebrooke, and Keith
Would have been Barkov, Herbedeau, and Eklab for years to come so sad he will
Never now take credit for developing them to stardom
