Panthers Beat Flyers, Improve to 5-0-0

The Florida Panthers continued their dominance to start the season with a 4-2 win on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers.

This game started out slow and that boded well for the Panthers, and they cashed in on a power play early on with a goal from Jonathan Huberdeau. That goal was the difference maker in the first, and the score remained 1-0 at intermission.

Penalties played a huge role in this game. This was especially true for the Flyers, who racked up seven penalties. The Panthers did take full advantage of these power plays, putting the Flyers on their toes the whole time.

The Flyers expectedly bounced back, scoring two goals in six minutes to grab a 2-1 lead. Claude Giroux used his lethal snap shot power to tie this game at one on the man advantage. Then, Cam Atkinson converted on a short handed breakaway chance and scored five hole on Sergei Bobrovsky. The Flyers were up 2-1. This lead was snatched away from them almost immediately after as the Panthers got one back. Ironically enough, Owen Tippett tipped in a puck fed to him from Weegar on a sauce pass. This goal tied the game up at two.

The Panthers special teams unit was very good Saturday night, and they played a key role in this win. Jonathan Huberdeau snatched the puck in his own zone on the penalty kill and took it one on one with the goalie and put it in to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. After holding off the Flyers for a five minute span, Florida got a much needed empty netter, and the undefeated start to their season was still intact for another night.
