The Miami Dolphins losing streak was extended to six games Sunday afternoon. Miami lost 30-28 at home to the Atlanta Falcons on a game-winning field goal for the second week in a row. Younghoe Koo put a 36-yard field goal right through the uprights. Kyle Pitts also had a huge day for Atlanta, recording seven receptions for 163 yards, including a 28-yard catch to set up the game-winning field goal.
Miami Dolphins:
The Dolphins started the game well. Miami had a 75-yard drive that was capped off by Isaiah Ford’s 10-yard touchdown.
However, Miami had multiple issues in the first half that would cost them the game later on. A huge issue was early in the second quarter when Atlanta’s Adetokunbo Ogundeji blocked a 49-yard field goal which would have made the score 10-3. Tua Tagovailoa would also throw two interceptions in the game. One came in the red zone. The other occurred a play after Xavien Howard made an interception of Matt Ryan, stealing the ball from Calvin Ridley as Ridley was lying on the ground. Under pressure, Tua threw the ball straight to linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, who returned it 56 yards to the Miami 14.
Tua Tagovailoa had a decent day, despite throwing two interceptions. The second-year quarterback out of Alabama completed 32-of-40 passes (80%) for four touchdowns. Tua’s four touchdowns went to four different receivers, keeping Miami in the game.
TE Mike Gesicki, on National Tight End Day, had seven receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown. Also, RB Myles Gaskin had 15 carries for 67 yards and a receiving touchdown. Jaylen Waddle also played well, recording seven receptions for 83 yards.
With the Dolphins loss, the rumors of Deshaun Watson still continue to loom, and they will have no later than November 2nd to decide.
Atlanta Falcons:
A day after the Braves advanced to the World Series, Atlanta sports fans had more to look forward to. Matt Ryan led the way for the Falcons, completing 25-of-40 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. 163 of those yards went to rookie sensation Kyle Pitts. Pitts, the tight end out of Florida, has 471 yards in his first six games, the most by any TE in the last 50 years.
Do-it-all RB Cordarrelle Patterson also had a fantastic game. Patterson had 14 rushes for 60 yards and a touchdown. Patterson became the first player with 10+ rushing touchdowns, 10+ receiving Touchdowns, and 5+ kickoff returns for touchdowns since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970.
