Jaguars Disappoint But Not Discouraged In Loss To Titans

After a rollercoaster of a week for head coach Urban Meyer, the Jacksonville Jaguars were hoping to put the coaches’ recent mix-up behind them. Looking to secure their first win since Week 1 of the 2020 season, the Jaguars came out hungry. However, Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans had other plans. Tennessee gave Jacksonville their 20th consecutive loss with a final score of 37-19.

Derrick Henry led the way for the Titans with 130 rushing yards and three touchdowns. It was a homecoming to remember for Henry, who grew up only 25 miles away from the stadium. Sunday’s performance kept the running back on top of the league rushing yards leaderboard. He continues to make many fantasy owners very happy. Tannehill gave praise to his running back after the game: “He’s big, he’s physical and he’s tough. He runs hard and he’s durable. It’s fun to be able to play with him.” The QB had a solid game of his own, throwing for 197 yards with one passing touchdown in a game without star WR Julio Jones.

Trevor Lawrence continues to show growth in his game in the pocket. He has yet to win a game but that hasn’t discouraged the young star. His confidence is only increasing with time. Sunday, Lawrence had a strong showing with 273 passing yards, one touchdown, and an interception. RB James Robinson was punishing on the ground with a career-high 149 rushing yards and a touchdown. TE Dan Arnold led Jacksonville’s receiving core with 64 yards on six catches.

It’s going to take a lot to turn this team around but after the game, Trevor spoke up about their recent woes on the field.

“You can’t get desperate; you have to just keep going to work,” Lawrence said. “We’re going to win some games. We’re going to turn it around. We all thought today was the day we were going to get that first win and it wasn’t. We didn’t execute enough down the stretch. But we’re going to figure it out and we’re going to turn this thing around and it’s going to be a lot of fun when we do.”

Urban Meyer’s Status

It’s rare to see a coach in the spotlight as Urban Meyer has been throughout his coaching career and that narrative continues as we see him in the headlines. A video of the coach went viral that has gotten him into some trouble with the team, the media, and the fans. The video was of the coach and a young woman dancing at a bar in Ohio last Sunday after their loss to the Bengals. Apparently, Meyer didn’t make the trip back with the team, deciding to stay in Ohio instead. The team’s owner, Shad Khan, went as far as publicly reprimanding the coach for his behavior, sighting it as “inexcusable”. Adding yet another loss to Jacksonville’s record could put the coach on the hot seat even further.
