Tom Brady Leads Game-Winning Drive, Bucs Slide Past Cowboys

Tom Brady led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers down the field in the closing minutes of Thursday night’s game. This set up Ryan Succop’s game-winning 36-yard field goal with seconds left in the fourth quarter. When it was all set and done, Tampa Bay narrowly defeated Dallas, 31-29.

Recap

44-year-old Tom Brady threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns (with two interceptions) in his 300th career regular-season game. Dak Prescott did even better, throwing for 403 yards and three touchdowns (with one interception) on 42-of-58 passing.

Antonio Brown was Tampa Bay’s leading receiver. At the 2:38 mark of the second quarter, Brady uncorked a 47-yard touchdown pass to Brown. In total, the former Pro-Bowler finished with 121 receiving yards on five receptions and one touchdown.

Like Brown, Rob Gronkowski had a terrific game. The tight end had five catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Brady and Gronkowski now have 86 touchdown connections, surpassing Steve Young and Jerry Rice (85) for the third-most regular-season touchdown connections in NFL history.

Meanwhile, Amari Cooper was Dallas’ leading receiver. Cooper, 27, caught 13 of his 16 targets for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper’s 13 receptions weren’t just the highest for the game, but they are the most by a Cowboys player in the opening game of the season in team history. This was also the 10th time in Cooper’s career (sixth with the Cowboys) that he was able to record 10 or more catches in a game.

WR CeeDee Lamb also played well for Dallas. Lamb had five catches for 67 yards and a touchdown but also had three drops.

In the running game, Dallas RB Ezekiel Elliott had 33 yards on 11 carries. And Bucs RB Leonard Fournette had 32 yards on nine carries.
