The Miami Dolphins made a group of cuts on Tuesday afternoon.
WR Kirk Merritt
Miami cut 24-year-old wide receiver Kirk Merritt. Merritt, who went to Arkansas State, had a terrific Training Camp and Preseason. However, it wasn’t enough to get a spot on Miami’s roster.
C Cameron Tom
Cameron Tom, 26, has been released by the Miami Dolphins. The Southern Miss alumnus signed a reserve/future deal with Miami this offseason.
RB Patrick Laird
Miami waived 26-year-old Patrick Laird. Laird has been Miami’s backup running-back for the past few seasons.
CB Cre’Von LeBlanc
The Dolphins cut cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc, who was born in Palm Beach, Florida and attended FAU (Florida Atlantic University).
Last season (eight games), the 190-pound cornerback had 18 solo tackles, one forced fumble, 28 targets, and 23 receptions allowed.
Head Coach Brian Flores was in New England in 2016 when LeBlanc was on the Patriots practice squad. However, the 26-year-old will have to find a spot on another team’s roster.
QB Reid Sinnett
Quarterback Reid Sinnett was surprisingly waived by Miami. The San Diego alumnus finished the preseason with an impressive 107.7 passer rating. However, needing depth at other positions took precedence over keeping Sinnett on the active roster. The Dolphins will have two QB’s on their active roster heading into the season (Jacoby Brissett and Tua Tagovailoa).
RB Gerrid Doaks
Gerrid Doaks, Miami’s 2021 seventh-round pick, has been waived. The 23-year-old was terrific at Cincinnati last year. Doaks will likely be picked up by an NFL team in the coming weeks/months.
LB Shaquem Griffin
Griffin, a fifth-round selection in 2018, appeared in 46 games for the Seahawks, registering one sack, six QB hits and 25 tackles while also adding a sack in the 2019 playoffs. The 26-year-old is a UCF alum. Despite being a fan favorite, the Dolphins waived Griffin.
WR Malcolm Perry
Perry, a seventh-round draft pick by the Dolphins in 2020, has been waived. The 24-year-old played running-back for the Navy Midshipmen at the college level. However, at the NFL level, Perry has been utilized as a receiver.
