The Tampa Bay Rays finished off a series in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon. The Rays started hot and stayed on fire throughout the entirety of Sunday’s game. Tampa Bay’s bats came alive as soon as the first pitch left the mound and it did not stop for nine innings. Although the Rays put up 12 runs, the Orioles did not roll over and die; they put up eight runs themselves and kept it interesting.
Coming Up Big
Joey Wendle had himself a game on Sunday. The 2021 All-Star cracked two home runs, one of which was a grand slam for a total of six RBI’s. Wendle’s bat was the catalyst for a phenomenal all-around performance from Tampa Bay. Austin Meadows and Jordan Luplow also cracked dingers which put the nail in the coffin.
Furthermore, rookie Wander Franco extended his on-base streak to 29 games.
The Rays are now 19-7 in the month of August, and 11-1 in their last 12 games. Also, the Rays are now 18-1 against Baltimore this season.
Baltimore
On the opposition, the Orioles played well, but it simply wasn’t enough. Rookie Ryan Mountcastle hit his 24th home run of the year. Jorge Mateo and Cedric Mullins also went deep.
On the Mound
Chris Archer made just his second start since April 10 for the Rays after being sidelined with a forearm injury. Archer managed to throw four innings, allowing two runs with four hits and six strikeouts. JT Chargois (5-0) picked up his second-consecutive win in relief.
