Marcus Garrett: Miami’s Unnoticed Summer League Star

Omer Yurtseven has arguably been Miami’s biggest standout in the NBA Summer League. However, there is a player whose performance may have gone unnoticed.

Marcus Garrett

Garrett, 22, has averaged 22.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game on 50.6 percent shooting and 36.4 percent from three-point range in five Summer League contests.

Garrett’s most notable trait is his gritty and ruthless defense. To simply put it, Garrett is a terror on defense and fits “Heat Culture”. In fact, the Dallas, Texas native won the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year in 2019-20 (with Kansas).

“He guarded me in practice the first day and he was everywhere. I couldn’t even get open… he’s strong and he gets through screens easily. He doesn’t really ever get hit. And he’s got super-long arms that help him.” – Max Strus on Marcus Garrett

So, will Marcus Garrett earn a regular roster spot by receiving one of Miami’s two-way contracts? Well, only time will tell.

Garrett will get one last chance to catch the eyes of the NBA world when the Heat play their final NBA Summer League game on Tuesday against Dallas.
