Alex Jackson and Isan Diaz Go Yard, Marlins Top Mets

On Tuesday night, the Miami Marlins were able to capture game two of a four-game series versus the New York Mets. Despite the win, the Marlins still sit at last place in the NL East (46-61).

Pitching & Defense

The Marlins chose to use starter Nick Neidert, the right-hander from Suwanee, Georgia. Neidert only surrendered three hits, four walks, and three earned runs. The Marlins starter also tallied five strikeouts, recording his first-ever MLB win. For New York, they chose to throw All-Star Taijuan Walker. Walker surrendered eight hits, two walks, and four earned runs while striking out four. From this point on, both teams ran to their bullpens in search of some security for their runs. As expected, both bullpens came in and slammed the door shut as they surrendered a total of just one run and two hits.

Miami’s Timely Hitting

The Miami Marlins were able to conquer the New York Mets thanks to some timely hitting. In the bottom of the second inning, the Marlins were able to come out with an early lead thanks to an Alex Jackson solo home run. This moonshot gave the California native his first big-league home run. Then, in the bottom of the third inning, Isan Diaz went deep to right-center field. This bomb put the Marlins up 2-0. From here, the Marlins added on to their lead. Rookie Bryan De La Cruz recorded a two-run single to make it a 4-0 game.

However, New York wouldn’t go down without a fight. The Mets got to within 4-3 in the sixth on Dominic Smith’s second sacrifice fly and J.D. Davis’ run-scoring double. Luckily, Jorge Alfaro’s RBI double in the eighth gave Miami some insurance. It was much-needed, as James McCann’s RBI double with two outs in the ninth put the Mets within one. But, Dylan Floro got the job, recording his fourth save of the season.
