Gabe Holmes Signs With Miami

The Miami Dolphins have signed the local product tight end (St. Thomas Aquinas High School grad) of Gabe Holmes.

A hometown South Florida native, Holmes is coming off multiple seasons in which he ventured away from the NFL. He spent tenures with the XFL (2020) and The Spring League in 2021.

The Uneventful NFL Career of Gabe Holmes

The 30-year-old TE entered the NFL as a free agent out of Purdue University in 2015.

His career saw him receive short-lived stints with multiple teams, starting with the Las Vegas (then Oakland) Raiders. He’s also joined the Seahawks, Ravens, Cardinals and Colts rosters in that exact order.

Holmes’ only playing time came with Arizona, participating in 10 games for the Cardinals and receiving four starts through the seasons of 2017 and 2018. However, he did not record any receptions or stats of any kind during his tenure in the Grand Canyon State.

Impact on the Dolphins

With the recent news of multiple Dolphins tight ends (Mike Gesicki, Cethan Carter and Adam Shaheen) joining the COVID-19 watchlist, this move is likely being done in order to stretch out the short-term depth of the position.
