Xavien Howard Reports to Training Camp

What was supposed to be the next chapter in the Xavien Howard saga for the Miami Dolphins, may have ended early Tuesday.

“We’re excited to work with X and all the players that are here. Those conversations with X’s representation and Chris and myself will be internal and confidential,” Flores said about Xavien Howard.

The All-Pro Cornerback showed up for day one of Dolphins’ Training Camp. This ends any speculation of an extended hold out.

After a 10-interception season by Howard, he made it clear he was not happy with the current deal that he signed in the 2019 offseason. This led to many trade rumors among social media and many NFL-centric news outlets. Clearly, none of the reported offers were good enough for Chris Grier and the front office to make a move.

Miami clearly has all the leverage in this situation. Howard avoided a $50k per day fine by showing up to camp Tuesday. This means Miami will not have to do anything and will retain Howard’s services for the upcoming season.

If “X” balls out again in the first part of 2021, look for a deadline deal as his value will never be higher.  For now, it looks as if the Dolphins won this game of chicken.
