Former Gator Kelsey Stewart Carries USA Past Japan

Kelsey Stewart hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the United States a 2-1 win over Japan in the last game of softball preliminary play for both teams.

Stewart, 26, is a left-handed third baseman who played for the Florida Gators. During her time with Florida, the 26-year-old won two softball National Championships. She was even named SEC Player of the Year in 2015.

Stewart graduated as a member of the select 300 hits, 200 runs, and 100 stolen bases club. Meanwhile, she has played for Team USA continuously since 2014 and was selected to compete at this year’s Summer Olympics, in which she hit a walk-off home run on Sunday night.

USA Softball will meet Japan again Tuesday morning for the gold medal match.
