Marcus Cushnie Transfers to Florida State From Alabama A&M

Former Alabama A&M edge rusher Marcus Cushnie has committed to Florida State after entering the transfer portal on July 11.

Who is Marcus Cushnie?

Cushnie, who is from the Sunshine State, initially committed to Purdue over FSU. He visited both programs in June and decided that the Boilermakers were the best possible fit.

However, a late offer by Coach Mike Norvell spurred a change of mind for the 6-foot-2, 245-pound edge rusher.

“Originally, when I first got there and started working out, they knew they wanted and needed me,” Cushnie said in an interview with floridastate.rivals.com. “They liked me a lot, and I think they felt I was the most qualified pass-rusher. But originally, I didn’t have the offer, and that’s where I stood with them. They still called me just about every day after that. Coach Norvell and I spoke a lot. Then they told me last Sunday I have an offer, and then from there I was deciding where I wanted to be between Purdue and Florida State. Then I came to that decision today.

During his time at Alabama A&M, Marcus Cushnie recorded 39 tackles in 12 games over the 2019 season. He also tallied eight quarterback hurries, seven sacks and two forced fumbles.

In 2020, Cushnie managed 17 tackles and seven sacks in only four games (Shortened season due to COVID-19).

The transfer has two years of eligibility left at FSU and will join a defensive line unit that also saw the additions of Jermaine Johnson II and Keir Thomas through the portal.
