Kahlil Watson Selected By Marlins With 16th Overall Pick

The Miami Marlins selected shortstop Kahlil Watson out of Wake Forest with the 16th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Watson, who is listed at 5-foot-9 and 178 pounds, was projected to be one of the top shortstops available in this year’s pool of prospects.

The 18-year-old averaged .477 across his career in high school, homering a total of 16 times in a span of less than 70 games.

Scouting Reports

A majority of the high-profile scouting reports listed Kahlil Watson as a top-10 prospect in the draft. MLB Pipeline, which had the shortstop at No. 4, emphasized the high schooler’s abilities to do it all.

“Running better than ever as a senior, Watson consistently displays well-above-average speed and is a base stealing threat. The North Carolina State recruit has the actions and instincts to play a solid shortstop. He could play almost anywhere on the diamond with his quickness and arm strength, and his offensive potential would allow him to profile well at several positions.”
